Minotaur (Klon® Centaur)

Minotaur, the Helix model of a Klon® Centaur

Recorded using a Les Paul with Burstbucker pickups into a Twin Reverb model with the normal input. The overdrive pedal and amp are set at default settings. A touch of reverb added for depth.

The Klon Centaur is a guitar overdrive pedal developed by Bill Finnegan between 1990 and 1994. The pedals were made manually by Finnegan. The Centaur is characterized as a "transparent" overdrive, meaning it adds gain to the signal without significantly altering the tone of the guitar.

Depending on the settings of the control knobs, the pedal can act mostly as a clean boost, adding mostly volume and minimal coloring to the sound. This can be used to drive the input valve stage of the amplifier to use the characteristic distortion sound of an overdriven guitar amp. Alternatively (or additionally) the controls can be set to distort the sound signal in the pedal, where two germanium diodes can perform waveform clipping (see clipping (audio)). The "gain" knob is a double potentiometer (a "dual-ganged gain pot"), which controls bass and middle frequencies. Other knobs are treble and volume.

AC 30 Tone for Boss Katana Amps

Use this patch by plugging straight into a Katana 50. Use the acoustic channel on the amp, and keep all Katana settings at noon, and adjust to taste. This patch uses the "A30 Fawn Brt" Helix model for a chimey AC30 tone. Use the Klon for some nice hot overdrive. There's some spring reverb included to round out the tone. Sounds great on the Katana combo.

Come on Let's Go

I love all of the Los Lobos Ritchie Valens covers on the La Bamba soundtrack.This patch replicates the rhythm and lead tones on "Come On Let's Go". It can probably fit in nicely with La Bamba and the others too. Use the Minotaur for the lead tone.Use a strat for this patch, I think the bridge + middle pickup position fits the best.

Mike Ness Tone

This is a very good aproximation of Mike Ness's Tone on the Social Distortion albums. The recipe is iconic - a dirt pedal into a Bassman head, then into Marshall cabinets. The sample clip was played on a legit Les Paul with P90 pickups - you need this to get the real deal.

Jingle Jangle

12 string into a chime amp = awesome. The Soundcloud demo below was made with Logic drums, and I used my "Guitar Goes Bass" preset available here on fluid solo to create the bass guitar sound. No bass guitar needed. Listen for the organ-like fadeout, very cool.

Hellbound Fender for Powercab

Dimed Tweed Les Paul

From Joost Assink: I had set myself the goal to master all the parts in the epic final solo of Hotel California in my downtime during this crisis. I found out there are 11 parts!! (6 electric guitars, 2 acoustic guitars, 1 bass part, the organ part and of course programming drums). Well, it took a little longer than expected. I recorded all electric guitars and the bass using line 6 helix into an Apollo X8. I recorded the acoustic guitars with a stereo set of Neumann KM184s and I mixed everything in the new Universal Audio Luna DAW. I used a custom patch based on the tweed amp with a custom IR for all the electric guitars and I use the standard Cali 1 bass preset for the bass guitar. For the solos, I enabled a tube screamer, and for the telecaster parts, I added the script mod phaser pedal. For the reggae rhythm, I enabled the Wah pedal in a fixed position and for the supporting electric guitar lines, I added a little bit of chorus. Amp Switcher with Effects

This patch allows you to send a channel switch command to your amp via the HX Effect's built in capabilities for channel switching, while at the same time toggling effects on and off with the 2 snapshots. On my personal setting, the "soft" snapshot is still dirty by using the Klon model, but the "hard" snapshot is using  my amp's gain.There is no 4 cable method used here, it's just the HX Effects switching my amp channels for me, and toggling some effects.NOTE: to use this patch, you will need to set the Pedal 2 Jack setting to "Amp2" in the device settings of the HX effects.
