70s Chorus (BOSS® CE-1)

70s Chorus, the Helix model of a BOSS® CE-1

This is the remastered Helix model of the Boss CE-1 chorus pedal.

Released June 1976, the CE-1 was the first in what has proven to be a very successful line of Chorus pedals from Boss. The circuit had already been used in the now legendary Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus amplifier. Boss decided that it would be a great idea to take the chorus circuit out of the JC-120 and sell it as a separate unit. The result became the CE-1 Chorus Ensemble.

The CE-1 is based around the Matsushita BBD MN3002. This circuit is originally developed by Philips but Matsushita was given a licence to make it from the mid 70s. Roland/Boss was their first customer and they soon found many applications for it in a wide range of products.

The CE-1 is an AC powered stereo chorus with a built in vibrato function. Just as on the JC-120 you can choose whether to use the CE-1 in chorus or vibrato mode. They both use the same BBD circuit so it is impossible to use both at the same time. The chorus and vibrato has separate controls. This differs from the JC-120 where the same controls are used for both effects.

Acoustic guitar

this sound makes your guitar sound acoustic it may sound a little dirty so just turn down the drive of the amp to the right amount of drive you want or need :)This patch has other pedals I've added for a clean sound try them out and see if you like them :)

This preset is to use a custom impulse response made by me using Bluecat Audio Re-Guitar.  Amp settings are the stock, reverb was tweaked a little bit. You can download here: drive.google.comYou should place an impulse response block first in the chain!

Vibrolux Kitchen Sink

The preset features a clean Vibrolux with two gain options; the EQ is set in front of the amp with a boost and there is a Kinky Boost between the amp and cab with a boost. It also has a transistor tape delay, chorus, and reverb - season to taste. I use this with my single coil guitars, but it should work fine with humbuckers. It's a sort of generic, catch-all preset.

Cobain

An attempt to get the core Nirvana sounds into a pedalboard. The chorus is not the actual model that Kurt played, which was an EHX Small Clone. The Boss CE-1 Chorus fills in for duty here.I used the "modded" DS-1 model vs the standard, just because I thought it sounded better. Finally, there's an acoustic sim to get you as close as possible without changing guitars.

Dimed Tweed Les Paul

From Joost Assink: I had set myself the goal to master all the parts in the epic final solo of Hotel California in my downtime during this crisis. I found out there are 11 parts!! (6 electric guitars, 2 acoustic guitars, 1 bass part, the organ part and of course programming drums). Well, it took a little longer than expected. I recorded all electric guitars and the bass using line 6 helix into an Apollo X8. I recorded the acoustic guitars with a stereo set of Neumann KM184s and I mixed everything in the new Universal Audio Luna DAW. I used a custom patch based on the tweed amp with a custom IR for all the electric guitars and I use the standard Cali 1 bass preset for the bass guitar. For the solos, I enabled a tube screamer, and for the telecaster parts, I added the script mod phaser pedal. For the reggae rhythm, I enabled the Wah pedal in a fixed position and for the supporting electric guitar lines, I added a little bit of chorus. Here's a free link to the IR used in the Youtube video:

Thrice Dustin Kensrue

These are a few settings that I think are close to Dustin Kensrue from Thrice's current setup. I've heard him say on Twitter that he likes using the Double Amp model and Minotaur and messing with gain settings and snapshots for different tones. I decided to use the Heir Apparent instead for a little more gain. SS1 is a cleanish, modulated tone, SS2 is probably the more used high-gain setting, and SS3 is a modulated sound a la the intro of the song Hurricane.
