Van Halen One

This is a simple patch for achieving a close approximation of the sound on the Van Halen 1 album. Reverb is on the right and more direct signal on the left which is like the album. You can simply move the move the reverb up out of the path 2 back into path 1. I have a video with me going through various songs from the album. In the video I am using my EB MM Axis that is about 20 years old now. The pickups in that guitar are amazing.

AC 30 Tone for Boss Katana Amps

Use this patch by plugging straight into a Katana 50. Use the acoustic channel on the amp, and keep all Katana settings at noon, and adjust to taste. This patch uses the "A30 Fawn Brt" Helix model for a chimey AC30 tone. Use the Klon for some nice hot overdrive. There's some spring reverb included to round out the tone. Sounds great on the Katana combo.

This is a very good aproximation of Mike Ness's Tone on the Social Distortion albums. The recipe is iconic - a dirt pedal into a Bassman head, then into Marshall cabinets. The sample clip was played on a legit Les Paul with P90 pickups - you need this to get the real deal.

This is a very good approximation of Mike Ness's Tone on the Social Distortion albums. The recipe is iconic - a dirt pedal into a Bassman head, then into Marshall cabinets. The sample clip was played on a legit Les Paul with P90 pickups - you need this to get the real deal.

Bonamassa Live

This is a modified version of bart2580's "Bonamassa 1959LP" patch on customtone. I modified it to use a built-in cab rather an an IR, and made a few smaller tweaks as well. The delay is very present in the mix, so you my want to tame it a bit, I like it.

Green Day Dookie Tone

This stereo tone replicates Billie Joe's tone on Green Day's Dookie album pretty well. There's a compressor and boost available for a little extra oomph, but they're off by default because they're not really needed to get the album tone. I used a Les Paul to record the Soundcloud demo, you may want to try a Strat or P90 guitar for a little extra high end.

JOHNAMAYERTRIX

(Reposted with permission from AndrewUtz on CustomTone.com) A John Mayer Tone, referencing Slow Dancing In A Burning Room. In this patch I used some basic stuff that I know John has used (or the closest thing to it I could find). I know live he has used dumbles along with a fender bandmaster, so for this I used a split path and ran a Litigator and a Twin Reverb at the same time. As far as the cabs go I tried my best to match how I know that continuum was recorded, I typically use red wire IR's but for you guys I used the equivalent Helix cabs. I put a dual cab block of the same cab but one is mic'd with a 57 and the other a beyerdynamic 160 (he really used an M88). Looks like he also used U87 or 67 room mics but alas it wouldn't let me add in another cab block. To compensate for this I used a room reverb at the end of the chain. I also put the Spring reverb before the cabs to simulate the acutal outboard fender reverb tanks john has used in the past. This patch probably needs some tweaking to make it like whatever you like, but I definitely think this is a good starting point for a Mayer like tone.

Silence

This utility patch is intended to reduce the hum and hiss of your noisy high gain amp. It is composed of 2 noise gates, one for your guitar and another for the amp's FX loop. The patch needs to run in the "4 Cable Method" to work properly. I use this patch to tame the hiss on my Mesa Boogie Mini Rectifier. It's a great amp but has a bit of hiss due to the high gain nature of the amp. By putting a noise gate in your amp's effects loop, you are mostly getting rid of any annoying hiss or hum that is in the amp's preamp section.
